Meet Dr. Loren Fishman
Loren Fishman, MD, B. Phil.,(oxon.) is on the staff at Columbia University Medical School. After earning an advanced degree from Oxford University, he spent one year with Mr. Iyengar in Pune. He has taught yoga and done yoga daily ever since, using it with patients for many conditions including low back pain, osteoporosis, scoliosis, rotator cuff and piriformis syndromes. He has written over 100 papers and 14 books, most of which feature Yoga.
Dr. Fishman’s research demonstrates the value of yoga for low back pain, scoliosis, osteoporosis, rotator cuff syndrome, and piriformis syndrome. He is currently conducting just finished an FDA approved free study “Yoga for adolescent scoliosis,”. He is in the closing phases of a study refining the use of yoga for osteoporosis. A previous third-party A replicated study shows that yoga improves bone mineral density; this study is to find out which poses strengthen which bones.
Dr. Fishman lives with his wife in New York City and has two granddaughters.
